We will run an experiment at PEARL on April 27 and 28 to examine how the accessibility of bus transport infrastructure affects boarding and alighting for people with disabilities when using public transport, and to identify possible solutions to mitigate the barriers we find.
We seek to recruit 23 individuals over the age of 18 who meet at least one of the following criteria.
Group A – a crowd of people at a bus stop, with or without disabilities. Elderly people and people with assistive devices will be given preference. Group A participants will include the following:
· People with other mobility impairments
· Blind and partially sighted people
· Elderly people
Group B – people with disabilities who will board and alight a mock-up minibus from a mock-up bus stop. Group B participants will be instrumented, and will include the following:
· Wheelchair users (one wheelchair user using a manual wheelchair and one using a motorised wheelchair)
· Volunteers using instrumented two wheelchairs supplied by PEARL
The experiments will last for 1.5 hours and there will be a daily remuneration of £50, of which £15 will be for travel cost. If you believe you are eligible for this study and would like to be a participant, please click on one of the forms below.
